    T-Mobile Galaxy Note II gets FCC approval

    The T-Mobile version of Samsung's Galaxy Note II has received FCC approval. According to the FCC's documents, the new Note will feature compatibility with a number of different wireless frequencies, and it will be LTE compatible, particularly with T-Mobile's forthcoming LTE network. That network is set to debut in 2013, and the new Note will be one of the first devices to take advantage of T-Mobile's LTE capability.

    The Note II will be able to support the following frequencies: 850/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 850/1700/1900 WCDMA/HSPA, Band 4 (5, 10, 15, 20 MHz), 17 LTE (5, 10 MHz). The 700MHz connectivity will support LTE roaming, and the 1700MHz band will be for T-Mobile's forthcoming network.

    The Note II is set to launch in late October, and Samsung expects it to sell better than its predecessor. The South Korean manufacturer has already begun sending out invites for a media event launching the new device. [via TMoNews]

    Ga. law enforcement agencies seek military vets

    ATLANTA -- Law enforcement agencies in Georgia are looking for military veterans.

    The state Department of Corrections is hosting a military personnel job fair Wednesday at State Offices South at Tift College in Forsyth. The agencies have approximately 800 jobs available for military personnel returning from duty.

    Participating agencies include: the State Board of Pardons and Paroles, the Department of Corrections, the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

    The job fair is set to include an orientation with guest speakers presentations of the participating agencies.

    The event is free and open to U.S. Veterans who register online.

    Mormon website editor's church discipline hearing suspended

    SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) - The Florida-based editor of a Mormon-themed website facing disciplinary action and possible excommunication over his writings said on Thursday his Orlando-area church leaders had suspended a hearing to decide his fate.

    David Twede's posts on MormonThink.com offer his account of the history of the church's political involvement, criticism of fellow Mormon and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and the author's take on Mormon beliefs about the nature of God and temple ceremonies.

    Twede, a 47-year-old, fifth-generation Mormon and MormonThink.com's managing editor, has said that church leaders had accused him of apostasy and described his recent posts as anti-Mormon. A disciplinary hearing had been set for Sunday.

    But Twede told Reuters by email that he was later informed by a senior church official that the hearing before 15 regional leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had been postponed.

    "He emailed me and simply said they they couldn't hold the court and would possibly reschedule later, " Twede said. "They will let me know."

    Mormon Church disciplinary decision are made at the local level and outcomes can include probation, disfellowship, excommunication or exoneration. Public excommunications are rare. But several high-profile scholars and feminists had their memberships revoked in the 1990s.

    Excommunicated persons can still attend church, but cannot receive the sacrament, hold church callings, speak at services or enter Mormon temples.

    Twede's possible discipline has drawn national media attention, something that could have prompted the church to back down, said Grant Palmer, a Utah-based author and Mormon historian, who was disciplined by the church in 2004.

    ATTENTION ON MORMON FAITH

    That's particularly true since Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney, whom Twede has criticized, is also Mormon, ramping up the amount of attention placed on Mormon beliefs and practice, Palmer said.

    "If I were a betting man, I would say yes, this is probably at work in the David Twede situation," said Palmer, who resigned from the church two years ago when facing his own excommunication hearing.

    In a statement released through the Utah-based church's public relations office, the senior official said the postponement was "due to a scheduling conflict" and would be rescheduled.

    The church has declined to comment specifically on Twede or his blog, saying disciplinary matters were confidential. Church spokesman Michael Purdy said last week it would be "patently false" to suggest a Mormon would face discipline for having questions about their faith or for expressing political views.

    "The church is an advocate of individual choice. It is a core tenet of our faith," Purdy said. "Church discipline becomes necessary only in those rare occasions when an individual's actions cannot be ignored while they claim to be in good standing with the church."

    Founded about eight years ago, MormonThink.org aims to explore aspects of Mormon history, belief and culture. Its writers include current and former church members, Twede said.

    Palmer said the site's growing influence maybe be an issue, saying that with the interest in Mormonism on the rise, monthly hits grew to a million in July, and have since surged further.

    "I guess the leadership doesn't like having any of this out there in public," Palmer said.

    Soil samples to be taken in Hoffa body claim

    ROSEVILLE, Mich. (AP) ? State investigators will take soil samples from outside a home in suburban Detroit as police continue looking into a man's claim that a body he says he saw buried in a backyard 35 years ago might have been that of missing Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa.

    The samples are set to be removed Friday morning from beneath the driveway of a home in Roseville and eventually tested for human decomposition.

    Hoffa was last seen July 30, 1975, outside a restaurant in Oakland County, more than 30 miles to the west.

    The results could put the rest the latest turn in the search for Hoffa's remains.

    Previous tips led police to excavate soil in 2006 at a horse farm more than 100 miles north of Detroit, rip up floorboards at a Detroit home in 2004, and search beneath a backyard pool north of the city in 2003.

    There were even rumors that Hoffa's remains were ground up and tossed into a Florida swamp, entombed beneath Giants Stadium in New Jersey or obliterated in a mob-owned fat-rendering plant.

    One local theory was that the body was beneath the foundation of a downtown Detroit hockey stadium, said 57-year-old Cindi Frank, who snapped photos Thursday of the Roseville driveway.

    The daughter of a unionized driver and salesman for a Detroit bakery, Frank remembers conversations about Hoffa while he was alive and rumors about his fate.

    "It was a family thing. Every time we'd go somewhere we'd say, 'Hey, I wonder if Jimmy Hoffa is buried there?'" Frank said. "It's just been one of those unsolved mysteries that's gone on for 30-something years. If he show up in Roseville ..."

    Results of the soil samples taken Friday are not expected before next week.

    News of the search has brought attention to the mostly working- and middle-class suburb from the curious and naysayers. Slowly moving vehicles have clogged the residential street as camera-wielding neighbors snapped photos for keepsakes.

    "I believe it's him. My sister said it is, and she's a psychic," said Mike Smith after ambling up to the home Thursday and shying a bit from the yellow police tape stretched across the driveway.

    Feisty and iron-willed in contract talks, Hoffa was an acquaintance of mobsters and adversary to federal officials. He spent time in prison for jury tampering.

    The day he disappeared, Hoffa was supposed to meet with a New Jersey Teamsters boss and a Detroit mafia captain. He was declared legally dead in 1982.

    At the request of police, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality used ground-penetrating radar last week on the Roseville driveway. An anomaly, or shift, in the soil was detected.

    Police Chief James Berlin told The Associated Press on Thursday that his office is "not claiming it's Jimmy Hoffa" beneath the slab but that they are "investigating a body that may be at the location."

    Roseville was one of several inner-ring communities that grew quickly as unionized auto factory workers left the city in search of nicer homes and bigger yards.

    "Maybe the most inconspicuous spot might be the place to stash a body or something," said 52-year-old Andrew Kacir, who lives across from the taped off driveway.

    Recently retired Detroit FBI chief Andrew Arena is among the doubters.

    Hey Bees! Regular poster, secret account. I'm usually completely open on here, but I've posted a few pics on here and just in case I know someone in real life, I'd rather not have my name on this for the time being...

    And I'll try not to make this super emotional, but I need some advice. I've been with my SO for 2 years. In the beginning, it was great. He's a great guy, super smart, ambitious, outgoing, and likeable. On paper, we look like the perfect couple. And for awhile, we were. We have the same goals, dreams, love each other and each other's families, great chemistry, never fought, just all around great relationship.

    Things eventually weren't picture perfect but pretty close. We had a few arguments, but couples do that. We worked through them and moved on. Then he took a 8 month long job 10 hours away. To say things have been tense is the very least. I truly don't enjoy my relationship anymore. We argue a lot, I feel like he doesn't talk to me with respect anymore. Some things he says to me tear me down instead of building me up. And somethings just seem plain mean. I leave most conversations feeling unhappy.? I don't even like talking to him.

    It's just a lot of little things, but it's stuff like:
    1. If he has a bad day at work, he'll take it out on me. He'll be grumpy and moody and nothing I do or say helps.
    2. He's made little remarks about how I should go to the gym, and tone up. I'm a size 4 so he's not saying I'm fat, just that I could use toning. He tends to be very critical of himself and other people. Not just in looks, but in how they live their lives. He's very critical of himself as well, but he's literally said "people should make themselves live up to my high expectations." He's called me unambitious, and said that I lack motivation, and in general mocks my job saying it's not a real job (I started my own business from home, and it's doing very well), and that he's going to have to earn all of our money when we're married (therefore he is the sole decision maker in how it is spent.)
    3. He says he wonders about us and our relationship sometimes. Like whether it's actually going to last or not. Because we're polar opposites, both in personality and not sharing any hobbies or anything.
    4.Whenever I point out something he does or says that makes me feel bad, he's like "Whatever, I'm an asshole and it's your own fault for being with me."

    But I love him, even if I don't like him right now. We're not married yet, but we're planning on getting engaged this fall (have the ring picked out) and we're planning on a small beach wedding next year. We have our life planned, it reads like a storybook, even though it doesn't feel like one. I hate feeling this way, and I keep telling myself it's the distance. But what if it's not? I'm scared I'm going to get married and we'll be unhappy and get divorced.

    Advice Bees? I didn't want to put a poll, because I think its super weird to base my relationship on some statistics, but I'd love your input and support. Thanks ladies!

    API: Administration Rules Hamper Energy Development,

    API Director of Upstream Erik Milito and API Director of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Howard Feldman told reporters yesterday morning that the administration?s policies on improving regulations and encouraging domestic oil and natural gas development continue to hamper energy production and job creation and threaten to leave the nation with a less secure energy future.

    Erik Milito: ?We have seen numerous examples of regulatory decisions that simply move in the wrong direction and that contribute to uncertainty and inefficiency. These include the administration?s status quo five-year plan for offshore development, its decisions to withdraw and delay the issuance of leases for federal onshore lands, its decision to redo its commercial oil shale regulations, its policies on ?Wild Lands? and categorical exclusions, its delayed action on seismic activity in the Atlantic, and, of course, its failure to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. Smart and cost-effective regulatory programs can help drive the country forward by boosting jobs, generating much-needed revenue, and enhancing energy security. This is the approach we need for our onshore and offshore federal leasing programs.?

    Howard Feldman: ?This is a global industry. Domestic refineries compete in a global marketplace. Now is not the time to impose still more requirements unless the need is indisputable. Yet that is exactly what the administration seems bent on doing. A slew of new rules, applicable only to U.S. refineries but not their competitors overseas, threaten to put some U.S. refiners out of business, diminish U.S. fuel manufacturing capacity, and increase our reliance on imported fuels. Addressing our environmental challenges is not discretionary. We get that. But with so great a burden already being shouldered, America?s refineries don?t need excessively costly regulations that do not account for progress already made, regulations without a sound science-based justification, or regulations for the sake of regulations. Our industry supports 9.2 million jobs. With the right policies, it can preserve those and create many more. The administration needs to take its ideological blinders off and not squander this opportunity.?

    The Hogs were named Grand Champions at the sixth annual ?Battle of the Brisket? competition at the Mission Arts and Eats Festival.

    By scoring the highest combined total in judges? marks for their brisket, ribs, pork and chicken, the Hogs won a commemorative plaque, a ribbon, and ? oh, yeah ??a $1,500 cash prize. The honor also qualifies them to compete in the American Royal Barbecue Contest.

    Magee is no stranger to accolades on the competitive barbecue circuit. A chef at the airport Hilton, he led the Hogs to the 2011KC Barbecue Society championship.

    NBC renews 'The Voice' for two more seasons

    NBC has picked up "The Voice" for two additional cycles.

    The network said Tuesday that the singing-competition series would return for two additional cycles for spring and fall 2013.

    "This pickup will assure the many dedicated 'Voice' fans that this innovative show will continue to bring some of the most talented new voices to the world?s attention through all of next year,? NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement.

    The series, which shifted to fall from a spring schedule for its third season, recently added a spring cycle, with Usher and Shakira subbing for original judges Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera for its fourth cycle. (Blake Shelton and Adam Levine will continue to serve as coaches for both runs.) ?

    "The Voice's" fall ratings performance, though down from its strong sophomore run, has validated the fall move. After growing in its second week, hitting a high of a 4.7 rating among adults 18-49 on Sept. 17, "The Voice" dropped only 11 percent to a 4.2 against Monday's premieres of the CBS comedy block and ABC's?"Dancing With the Stars"?and topped both for the night. Even with its stronger numbers from earlier in the year, "The Voice" often was eclipsed in the demo by CBS.?

    Season-to-date, "The Voice" is averaging a 4.5 rating through its first two Mondays in the demo and a 4.3 on Tuesdays. In total viewers, the Carson Daly-hosted series is averaging 12.9 million total viewers on Mondays and 12.5 million on Tuesdays, according to Nielsen, ranking as the Nos. 1 and 2 nonsports telecasts among the Big Four in the demo. Year-over-year, NBC's Monday schedule has posted a 122 percent growth in the demo. ?

    LAKESIDE, Calif. (AP) ? Two sheriff's deputies were shot Tuesday in suburban San Diego while investigating a case of possible child abuse, and the child-abuse suspect was also shot, authorities said.

    The shootings occurred shortly after noon when the deputies arrived at an apartment in Lakeside, a semi-rural community east of San Diego, said San Diego County sheriff's Capt. Duncan Fraser. He declined to elaborate on the circumstances, including who fired the shots.

    The sheriff's department said in a statement that it had "many witnesses to talk to and evidence to gather."

    Fraser didn't know whether any of the injuries were life-threatening or what condition the victims were in. The deputies underwent surgery at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, according to the sheriff's department, which did not disclose where the suspect was being treated.

    "We're hoping for the best, obviously," Fraser said.

    According to U-T San Diego, a woman said deputies went to the apartment she shares with her boyfriend after she found pornographic pictures of him with her two young daughters on his cellphone. She reported the photos to sheriff's investigators, who listened in on a call in which she confronted her boyfriend and he told her he was offered $50,000 to post the images on the Internet.

    The woman, who was not identified by the newspaper to protect her children's identities, said she heard deputies arrive at the apartment while she was on the phone. She heard gunshots and someone say, "Officers down."

    The woman told the newspaper that the boyfriend said he shot himself and she heard him surrender.

    Jeffrey Miller, 20, heard gunshots and came out of his apartment and saw deputies pulling another deputy on to the grass.

    "It was kind of confusing, everything was happening," he said.

    The shootings occurred near El Capital High School, which was briefly put on lockdown. Residents were evacuated from the apartment complex where the shootings occurred, and surrounding streets were closed.
